What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing refers to the delivery of computing services over the internet, or "the cloud." These services include storage, processing power, databases, networking, software, and more. Instead of owning and maintaining physical servers and data centers, users can access and use these resources on-demand from cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Cloud computing can be categorized in three main types:

  1. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): Provides virtualized computing resources over the internet. Examples include AWS EC2 and Google Compute Engine.

  2. Platform as a Service (PaaS): Offers a platform allowing customers to develop, run, and manage applications without dealing with the underlying infrastructure. Examples include Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine.

  3. Software as a Service (SaaS): Delivers software applications over the internet, on a subscription basis. Examples include Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365, and Salesforce.
